STATEMENT: DeSantis Watch Slams “Resign-To-Run” Change in Voting Overhaul

Today, the Florida House of Representatives followed the lead of the Senate and passed SB 7050, sending to Governor Ron DeSantis a sweeping overhaul of the state’s voting laws which includes changes to the “resign-to-run” law intended to clear away legal hurdles for Ron’s impending campaign for president.

In response, DeSantis Watch Communications Director Anders Croy issued the following statement:

“Ron’s rubber stamp Legislature strikes again, once more putting the political ambitions of Florida’s mad king Governor ahead of the needs of the people of our state. Floridians want and deserve a governor whose sole focus is solving the real problems they face every day, but Ron DeSantis is determined to leave our state and the people he was elected to serve behind.

“While Ron DeSantis has been absent from Florida, the affordability crisis he created continues to grow. Instead of focusing on fixing those issues, Republican leadership has been busy passing an extreme agenda to check off boxes on the Governor’s Iowa checklist for his campaign for president and this change to the ‘resign-to-run’ law illustrates where the priorities of Ron DeSantis and his allies have been focused. ”
