DeSantis Watch Statement on Florida’s Missing In Action Governor During Special Session

As Florida wraps up a special session Governor Ron DeSantis asked for that neglected to address the top issues facing the people of our state, DeSantis Watch Constituencies Director Natasha Sutherland released the following statement:

“Floridians are being crushed under an affordability crisis, fueled by skyrocketing property insurance rates, but Governor Ron DeSantis was missing in action this week, pandering to voters thousands of miles away in Iowa instead of doing anything to help the people he was elected to serve. From Pensacola to Key West, the hardworking people of Florida have earned the freedom to be healthy, prosperous, and safe, but Ron DeSantis cannot even be bothered to show up to do his taxpayer-funded job during a special session that was his idea in the first place.

“Instead of advocating for real reforms that could lower property insurance costs for workers and seniors by putting money back in the pockets of Floridians through direct subsidies from the state’s budget surplus, capping premium increases in the short term, and increasing oversight of insurance companies, Ron DeSantis continues to prioritize his own political ambitions while his constituents suffer. With each passing day, it becomes more clear that we cannot afford Ron DeSantis as governor and the American people cannot afford his Ron-First attitude as president.”
