TALLAHASSEE — Today, the Florida Legislature adjourned sine die on the 2024 legislative session.
In response, DeSantis Watch Constituencies Director Natasha Sutherland released the following statement:
“While promoting his own political ambitions ahead of his run for president, Governor Ron DeSantis ruled over the spineless Florida Legislature with an iron fist to pass anti-freedom policies which attacked our Black, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ communities, put public safety at risk, and banned abortion access for thousands of patients across the state in order to appeal to extreme, right-wing primary voters in other states.
“Rather than using the embarrassment of his failed campaign as motivation to return to Florida to address the real problems impacting the people he was elected to serve, this legislative session Governor DeSantis failed to exert that same influence on solving the affordability crisis in the state, instead choosing to spend his time whining about national issues while his constituents struggle to pay their bills.
“Floridians deserve better than an absentee governor whose focus remains solely on himself rather than doing his job and these last sixty days make it clear that Ron DeSantis has no solutions to lower costs, raise wages, and build an affordable future for any of us, much less all of us.”
