DeSantis Watch Statement on Ron’s Puppet Pick for Attorney General

TALLAHASSEE – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed his Chief of Staff, James Uthmeier, to fill the soon-to-be vacant position of Attorney General.

In response, DeSantis Watch Communications Director Anders Croy released the following statement:

“Governor Ron DeSantis’ selection of his Chief of Staff for the position of Attorney General, an independent constitutional office whose duty is to serve the people of Florida, shows that he is only interested in having another puppet in state government, just like Ashley Moody, who will help advance his agenda of higher costs and fewer freedoms for all Floridians.

“During his time serving the Governor, James Uthmeier organized government officials to pressure lobbyists to fundraise for DeSantis’ presidential campaign, tried to rewrite public records law to increase the likelihood of government corruption, and helped direct the opposition to the amendment to restore reproductive freedom in Florida, which also included millions of taxpayer dollars being spent by agencies under the control of the Governor’s office.

“By picking the architect of his failed run for higher office to be Florida’s next Attorney General, Governor DeSantis has proven once again he will always put his own political ambitions ahead of serving the working families and seniors of our state who deserve better than a political crony as their watchdog in Tallahassee.”
