TALLAHASSEE — Today, Lame Duck Governor Ron DeSantis narrowly averted a shutdown of Florida’s state government by signing the budget one day before the new fiscal year begins. As Floridians continue to suffer under the affordability crisis his “Florida Blueprint” created, the Governor issued almost $600 million in vetoes that target critical programs which provide health care access, support assistance programs for working families and seniors in need, improve infrastructure, and protect public safety throughout the state.
In response, DeSantis Watch Communications Director Anders Croy released the following statement:
“While Floridians continue to work hard during the state’s worsening affordability crisis, their Lame Duck Governor has kicked sand in their face with spiteful vetoes that undermine access to the critical assistance programs, health care, infrastructure improvements, and public safety resources they rely on to live their version of the American Dream.
“For working Floridians and seniors from the Panhandle to the Keys, the programs that Governor DeSantis has indiscriminately axed from the state’s budget are more than just lines on a page: they are vital lifelines paid for by their tax dollars to provide their families and their local communities with the brighter future they have earned.
“At a time when the cost of groceries, housing, and health care are stretching household budgets thin, Governor Ron DeSantis has once again shown his utter disregard for the people he was elected to serve in order to prop up his own ego and political ambitions in another disgusting display of the arrogance that is the hallmark of his time in office.”
