Two Years After Taxpayer Dollars Were Used for Political Ads, the Cover-Up Continues
TALLAHASSEE – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis and DeSantis-appointed Attorney General James Uthmeier held a press conference in Miami announcing their intention to prosecute the people who exposed the Hope Florida scandal. This is the latest shoe to drop in a long line of efforts to cover up their corrupt abuse of taxpayer dollars, where they took $10 million meant to help children, seniors, and disabled Floridians and diverted it to fund political campaigns, as determined by a grand jury.
“What has been happening in Florida under Governor Ron DeSantis should serve as a warning to the rest of the nation about what they can expect from the Trump administration’s abuse of taxpayer dollars for political gain. The President began running taxpayer-funded ads just two weeks ago, but in Florida, we are two years into this scandal. The rest of the country needs to be watching what’s happening in Florida—the political corruption we are seeing at the national stage didn’t start with Trump, but it can end with him,” said DeSantis Watch Deputy Communications Director Lisa Zayas.
“There’s no end to the corruption of this administration. Time and again, Governor DeSantis and his appointed lackeys have defied the will of the people: using the people’s money to campaign against citizen-led amendments, appointing his cronies James Uthmeier and Ashley Moody to positions to cover it up, undermining the decision of a grand jury, and now threatening citizens who exposed the truth to say enough. This is more than political arrogance; this is a blatant disregard for the people, their voice, and the rule of law,” said Zayas.
